Netflix just dropped the trailer for Dolemite Is My Name. It’s supposed to be something of a comeback for Eddie Murphy, but it seems to be more of the same by the looks of this trailer. It’s based on a true story, so it should be an interesting story at the very least. It just seems pandering and the type of comedy that would have done well in the early 2000s to me.
On the other hand, Dolemite Is My Name was selected to play at TIFF 2019 and the rest of the cast is stacked. It includes Chris Rock, Wesley Snipes, Keegan-Michael Key, Craig Robinson, Tituss Burgess, Mike Epps, and none other than T.I.
Academy Award nominee Eddie Murphy portrays real-life legend Rudy Ray Moore, a comedy and rap pioneer who proved naysayers wrong when his hilarious, obscene, kung-fu fighting alter ego, Dolemite, became a 1970s Blaxploitation phenomenon.
