Today we got our first trailer for 1917, the upcoming WWI movie from Sam Mendes. What really stood out here is the visual work and style going on in the trailer. Obviously it’s shot by the unrivaled Roger Deakins, but the changing aspect ratio and weaving in and out the letters and numbers was done extraordinarily well.
At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.
1917 hits select US theaters December 25th and expands January 10th.
