Fox Searchlight finally released a trailer for A Hidden Life from writer and director Terrence Malick. The film is based on true events and debuted at Cannes Film Festival earlier this summer. As with many of Malick‘s films, it’s gorgeous and ambitious but not be accessible to a broader audience.

Based on real events, from visionary writer-director Terrence Malick, A Hidden Life is the story of an unsung hero, Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight for the Nazis in World War II. When the Austrian peasant farmer is faced with the threat of execution for treason, it is his unwavering faith and his love for his wife Fani and children that keeps his spirit alive.

A Hidden Life stars August Diehl, Valerie Pachner, Michael Nyqvist, Matthias Schoenaerts and Jürgen Prochnow.

Needless to say, at Reel Big Film, we’re very excited about this and might just rereview Badlands (a personal Malick favorite) to prepare.

A Hidden Life will be at TIFF and be released in the United States on December 13.
