Fox Searchlight released the official trailer for the upcoming Noah Hawley-directed drama Lucy In The Sky. Starring Natalie Portman, the film is set to have its world premiere at TIFF on September 11, before releasing in theaters on October 4.
Astronaut Lucy Cola (Natalie Portman) returns to Earth after a lengthy mission and begins an affair with a fellow astronaut. She heads into a downward spiral as she loses her connection to her family, and when her lover begins another affair with an astronaut trainee, the bottom drops out.
The film is loosely based on astronaut Lisa Nowak’s criminal activities around her romantic involvement with fellow astronaut William Ofelein.
The Lisa Nowak saga is one of the wilder stories in recent memory. And while Lucy In The Sky is not a direct adaptation of those events, there is plenty of good source material to make for an interesting movie.
We’ll have to see what the first reactions are like at TIFF, but Lucy In The Sky could be a serious awards contender. In addition to Best Picture, keep an eye on its chances for the directing and the acting categories. The supporting cast includes Jon Hamm, Zazie Beetz, Dan Stevens, and Nick Offerman.
