Anyone remember Michael Bay’s absolute horrendous Pearl Harbor? I call it horrendous, but I actually hold a very soft and dear spot for that mess of a film. However, a new adaptation of one of the most disastrous attacks on the US navy and the aftermath is here and by the trailer, it looks pretty stacked in terms of cast and action.
Midway portrays the Battle of Midway, which happened 6 months after the attacks on Pearl Harbor. You may know how this one ends, but the journey there seems to be quite the cinematic treat. By the looks of it, Roland Emmerich is staying true to his siganture style of big names, big action.
The cast includes, but isn’t limited to Luke Evans, Nick Jonas, Ed Skrein, Patrick Wilson and Woody Harrelson. It remains to be seen if Emmerich can pull this off. War films can be tricky if you prioritise spectacle over the more emotional beats, but Bay didn’t manage to pull off either of those so Emmerich might just win by default.
Midway hits cinemas November 8th in the US.
