The first trailer for Melina Matsoukas’ film Queen & Slim dropped at the end of July. It leaned heavily into the melancholy side of the story and Lena Waithe’s writing. The second trailer adds more action and amps up the tension and conflict at the heart of the film.
The film follows titular Queen and Slim, played by newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith and Daniel Kaluuya who get into deep trouble on their first date after pulling the trigger on a cop. The two go out on the run and in hiding, but by the looks of it, there will be an explosive ending to their story as the people riot on the streets in protest of racial violence and in the pair’s support.
The film is directed by Melina Matsoukas and written by Lena Waithe, from a story by James Frey. It will hit theathres November 27th in the US.
